the knowledge
You know I'm stunned at times by the knowledge that exists in the surf community, I know I shouldn't be but I am. I've just had the chance to show off a new old school board by chops and the first thing that happened is several folks said, McTavish, mid 70's, they're right, that's exactly what its is, a transitional shape, a pre-thruster short-board, a fun-board shaped gun, a single fin, a mini-mal (lets face it its 8ft long), a joy to surf! It's just different to much of what's out there right now, and we've all heard that this coming year mid Feb on is going to be the year when the old school shapes that 'worked' (that's important) are going to be back on the scene, you wont be able to make as sharp a turn, sink that rail so deep and recover it, but speed and style will be back in spades with the rounder rails and flatter shapes, without the pump, pump, pump action, that characterises most surfers today on so many slack English waves....it'll be a joy to see the stylish carve make a return to many surfers repertoire (heres hoping) rather than the pump. pump, pump one manoeuvre is king of now. So just get a higher volume, rounder railed board installed in your quiver for summer, you might just end up surfing it all year round!
