Don't go Deaf, plug it!
If you surf there's a strong chance you've got some form of Surfers Ear (Exostosis), its a condition where the body tries to protect your ear drum from frequent exposure to cold water by overgrowth of outer ear canal bone.
What it means in practice is in extreme cases you can go deaf, and its a nasty bit of surgery to basically drill your ear canal out again, which keeps you out the water for 6-8 weeks while things heal and can of itself result in some hearing damage!
More likely is that you'll get some hearing loss and potentially trap water in the ear for a while, which increases your likely hood of ear infections, which is why I ended up tracking down my first pair of ear plugs.
So if you Surf, get some Ear plugs, there are a bunch on the market now, but if your around Penzance I'd highly recommend getting a custom moulded pair from Tony which he currently sells for £25 or £35 depending on the material/model.
You can contact Tony on 01736-874950 to get some custom ear plugs made.
Why am I recommending Tony? He's a surfer and tests his own products. I've been using his plugs since 2006, and they do the business, have never fallen out, and I've had zero ear infections since using them; Or put it another way I recommend him to all my friends.
