Gul Open 2008, St Ives
Supporting the British surfing scene has always an important strategy to us at Gul. Today the men’s and ladies open through to the up and coming grommets the UK scene is growing in stature and producing lots of raw talent. Through competitions such as the Gul Open at Porthmeor on the 30th and 31st of August we hope to continue to assist and develop the UK Surfing scene to be one of the strong forces in Europe.
Over the past decade female surfing has grown and grown and now the UK scene produces some of the best surfers in Europe. Riders such as Sarah Bentley, Holly Donnelley and Joanne Dennison battle it out at the top of the UK PST scoreboard. Gul team rider Beth Mason and current British champion is ripping up the European circuit and is now a seasoned Hawaii surfer.
Additionally the grommets are on fire. Josh Piper, Tom Good and Toby Donachie are killing it in the under 16 boys UK PST ranking score board and Zoe Sheath, Poppy Barlow-Giffen and Harriet Knight are surfing really strong in the under 16 girl UK PST.
In all the Gul Open at Porthmeor on the 30th and 31st of August will provide a stage to show case some of Britain’s best talent and help continue the development of the British surfing scene.
