12ft Thresher shark at Gwithian

Yep a 12ft Thesher Shark washed up at Gwithian, Cornwall on Thursday morning (25/Sept/09). Checkout the full story over at the Gwithian lines blog, and just incase you were wondering apparently they feed on Mackerel, Herring and cephalopods  ie. squid type creatures. They can be found in the Atlantic during summer as far north as Newfoundland, with the rest of the range extending all the way down the East Atlantic to the West Indies and northern South America.

There are also a few reports of surfers having seen brief glimpses of something strange in the water in the week preceding the shark washing up.
