Understanding how swell is generated by low pressure systems is the key to scoring good waves. A lows geographical position, intensity, track and duration is what drives swell quality, power and direction.

I’m not going to try to cover it here but a quick google will bring up tons of info on the subject.

Dial in your knowledge of reading pressure charts and how this relates to your local spots, and I’d be amazed if your not scoring good waves more often. Down here in Cornwall at the western tip of England, understanding swell direction and how it wraps around headlands and peninsulas is key!
